Miguel Rene Lopez was born in El Paso, TX in 1973. He attended Los Angeles Trade-Tech (1991 to 1993), Santa Monica College (1995 to 1996), Santa Monica College of Design, Art, and Architecture (1997 to 1999), and Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California (2000 to 2001).

From an early age, Miguel has always had a fascination with the visual experience. Drawing led to painting, which in turn led to photography. He has since developed a deep appreciation for architecture, cinema, design, drawing, landscapes, painting, and photography. He has exhibited in solo and group shows in both Los Angeles and El Paso. Today, he continues to produce visceral artworks that relate to his questions, personal experiences, dreams, and observations. His mediums consist of charcoal, gouache, oil, pastel, pen and ink, pencil, and photography.

With its vast horizons, alluring colors, ancient textures, ecosystem energy, tumultuous storms, and regional folklore, the desert southwest is what captivates and energizes Miguel. His work attempts to record the relationship of the human condition to its environment through his conveyed feelings and evoked emotions. He believes the ability to share, discuss and question life’s experiences are essential to our existence and well-being.
